Example Calculations
Introduction
Calcatraz is a free online calculator. It performs a range of calculations including basic mathematics, unit conversions and currency conversions.
This section gives examples of the types of calculations which can be performed. It is not exhaustive so feel free to enter any calculation you would like answered and Calcatraz will try to calculate the result.
Please note that Calcatraz is in the early stages of development and has a number of known limitations and bugs. However, it is being constantly improved upon and these will all be addressed in time. If you're currently getting 'No answer' messages, or incorrect results please accept our apologies and try again at a later date. Thanks!
Basic and Scientific Calculations
* Trigonometric functions currently use degrees by default, but please note that this may be changed to radians in the future.
Conversions
* At the moment currency conversions require the use of a
3 letter currency code. I hope to add support for more natural ways of writing these calculations shortly. Please see the Known Issues section below for more details.

Known Issues
Unfortunately Calcatraz is not yet a perfect system. Here are some of the main issues we are currently working to resolve:
- Units Support - Currently support for units within calculations is a bit patchy. For example where a calculation involves quantities with specified units (e.g. 3m + 2m), the units are often lost or confuse the calculator. While there are a few hacks I've put in place to minimise the negative effects, the proper solution requires some changes to the core algorithms. I've almost finished working out the details and hope to be able to implement the solution in the near future.
- Currency Conversion - Related to the Units Support issue is that currency conversion does not work correctly in all cases. In particular, it does not calculate Euros correctly, and does not correctly handle currency symbols such as £ and $. These currency conversion issues require the Unit Support issue to be fixed first. Once that is done it will be possible to fix the currency conversions.
- Constants - There are many constants which are useful in calculations. The only thing which has prevented their addition so far is time. However, I hope in the near future to be able to greatly expand the number of constants which Calcatraz can use.
If you have anything else you'd like to see on that list, please either let me know at
feedback@calcatraz.com or just try it in
Calcatraz - questions it can't answer are noted and added to a list of improvements to be made ASAP.
